What are THC Cartridges?

Ever wish you could get the benefits of cannabis concentrates without all the fuss? No dab rig, no torches, no sticky tools covered in concentrates? Many of us are seeking a potent high with a simpler delivery system. Well, we can stop dreaming: The future is now. THC cartridges (often simply called “THC carts”) combined with a marijuana vape pen make consuming concentrates simple, accessible, and effective.

Understanding Cartridges: What are THC Carts?

If you’ve ever vaped nicotine before, chances are you’re familiar with cartridges. A THC cart is a comparable delivery concept, just using a much healthier substance: cannabis. THC carts are small containers made of glass and metal that contain cannabis concentrates.

By applying heat to the cartridge, you can vaporize the concentrate within. A mouthpiece runs out of the container, allowing you to inhale the resulting vapor. THC vape carts are often single-use, but reusable cartridges also exist.

Why use THC carts? Because they’re crazy powerful, for one. Cannabis concentrates often have THC levels ranging from 60% to 90% (compare that with flower, which usually lands in the 20% to 30% range for THC content these days). A tiny puff of a vape cart goes a long way. Cartridges give you simple and convenient access to high-potency consumption without all the effort and equipment that dabbing requires.

What is a Marijuana Vape Pen?

We mentioned that you need to apply heat to vaporize the THC within a cartridge. When it comes to heating up cannabis concentrates, there’s one solution: a marijuana vape pen.

Specifically, we’re talking about a THC cart battery. Technically, the term “marijuana vape pen” refers to a battery attached to a THC cartridge. While many vape batteries exist on today’s market, there’s one indisputable leader: the 510 threaded battery.

A 510 threaded battery is essentially the “industry standard” of marijuana vape pens. They’re super simple to use. One end of the battery is threaded (like a screw). This allows cartridges to screw onto the battery, sitting directly on its heating coil. The battery also screws onto its charger, which you can generally plug into the wall with a USB adapter.

Every battery functions a little differently. Some of them just require you to inhale through the THC cart’s mouthpiece to activate. Others have a button that you’ll need to press. Still others have adjustable heat settings to help you dial in your perfect puff.

THC Vape Carts vs Dab Pens

While THC vape carts (and by extension marijuana vape pens) and dab pens share some similarities, they’re not the same. A marijuana vape pen uses the same mechanism that any other kind of nicotine vape device would. In contrast, a dab pen is more akin to taking an actual dab.

With a THC vape cart, usually concentrates come preloaded into the cartridge. With a dab pen, you need to add the concentrate directly into the pen’s heating chamber yourself. As a result, dab pens get significantly dirtier and require much more upkeep than a marijuana vape pen does. However, they do give you a more explicitly “dab-like” experience.
