All About Cannabis Flower

Product Spotlight: All About Cannabis Flower

When most people think of cannabis, they probably think of lighting up a joint or packing a bowl. Smoking is the classic way of using cannabis that generations have been raised on. But today’s cannabis consumer has access to huge dispensary menus loaded with a variety of new and exciting products. So why do so many people still choose flower over the many other cannabis products and consumption methods available to them?

Why Flower Is Still King

As consumers, it’s not just the products themselves that we enjoy, but also the experience of using them or even obtaining them. At the end of the day, despite the convenience of edibles or the intense flavors of dabs, there’s just something about opening up a fresh bag of cannabis flower only to be hit by that familiar smell of skunk and sight of frosty buds.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a personal experience either. One of the most enjoyable ways to use cannabis is sharing it with friends, and there’s really just no easier way to share cannabis than by passing around a freshly packed joint or bowl.

Additionally, many people view flower as being a purer and simpler version of cannabis compared to other products which have been manufactured in some way, like edibles, vapes, or concentrates. Because of this, flower is still a common entry point for many people who are new to cannabis, and many continue to stick with it.

From Seed To Sale: How Cannabis Flower Makes It To Dispensary Shelves

How does flower cannabis make it to the sales floor? The journey of a cannabis bud begins with a seed encoded with the genetics of the parent strains it came from. Several weeks after the seed is planted, it germinates into a seedling and begins to grow cannabis leaves, but not buds. Then the plant enters its vegetative state where growth really takes off, and which can last for anywhere from 3–16 weeks depending on a variety of different factors. But still no buds. It isn’t until the third stage, the flowering stage which usually latest anwhere from 5–8 weeks, that plants begin to develop colas and those familar frosty looking buds that we’ve come to love.

When the time is just right, the plant can be harvested and the process of trimming, curing, and packaging can begin. Trimming is required in order to keep the buds looking clean and smoking well, and can be performed with both fresh (wet) plant material or dried plant material. Even if trimmed wet, the buds will still have to go through a drying and curing process that rids them of moisture and makes them easier to smoke. After several days of this, the final batch of flower cannabis is ready for lab testing, packaging, and shipping to dispensary locations.

Flower As A Product: What To Look For When Shopping For Cannabis Flower

What makes cannabis flower ‘top-shelf’? High quality cannabis flower usually has serious bag appeal and a bold aroma. These are indicators that it was grown well and that it’s capable of producing a nice flavor or strong effects. But how can you know for sure? There’s more to cannabis flower than just passing the eye test. Two things that to keep an eye on when shopping for buds is their cannabinoid content and terpene profile.

Cannabinoids like THC and CBD give cannabis its effects while terpenes provide its flavor. Remember that THC flower isn’t the only option. Some strains are high in CBD and every strain contains a variety of different minor cannabinoids. Different combinations of cannabinoids and terpenes produce different experiences, so knowing exactly what a batch of flower contains can help you to better gauge whether it is of high quality and whether it’s right for you.

Making Life Easier With Cannabis Prerolls

Joints are a super laid-back and enjoyable way to consume cannabis. But rolling one can be a different story altogether–especially if you’ve never done it before. And even seasoned rollers can eventually get annoyed with having to constantly roll up their CBD and THC flower. Luckily, there’s no need to deal with rolling your own joints when you can just get someone else to do it for you. Prerolls make joints more accessible and convenient by taking the hard work out of your hands and putting it into somebody else’s–literally!

Pre-rolled joints are available in a variety of different sizes and even come in the form of prerolled blunts. Concentrate lovers don’t have to miss out either. Infused prerolls combine flower and extract all in one preroll to offer a truly next-level joint smoking experience
