Mimosa Strain Profile

You wake up on a warm, sunny, lazy Sunday morning with no plans. You roll out of bed and stretch, picking up your phone to see what your friends are up to. A text from one of them already occupies the screen. They’re thinking of the same thing you are. The text consists of a single word: “Brunch?” That’s a resounding yes in your book. Everyone loves brunch, and a big reason for that is: mimosas.

In this post, we’re going to be looking at a different kind of Mimosa: the citrusy hybrid cannabis strain! Keep reading to learn more about this popular strain’s genetics, aroma, flavor, effects, and cultivation.

Mimosa Strain Genetics

Mimosa (aka “Purple Mimosa”) is the result of a cross between the Clementine and Purple Punch strains. That gives it a sativa-dominant genetic profile, clocking in at about 70/30 sativa to indica ratio. Mimosa is also part of the Tangie family of strains, a modern genealogy of some of the best-tasting sativa citrus strains. While Tangie may not be as famous as other strain families like “Cookies,” it’s produced some of the best sativas of the last decade.

Is the Mimosa Strain Indica or Sativa?

With its 70/30 ratio of sativa to indica, Mimosa is firmly a sativa-dominant hybrid. That gives it a few unique traits, like influencing its physical appearance and the effects it may have on those who consume it. It also gives this strain its massive THC level, which can reach between 25% and 30%. Finally, its genetic profile gives Mimosa its terpene profile, which is notably myrcene-heavy.

Mimosa Marijuana Strain Appearance and Aroma

One glance at Mimosa will tell you why some people call it “Purple Mimosa strain” There’s more royal purple hue than there is green in its buds. Its citrus-orange hairs are an homage to its namesake, combining with its citrusy flavor to create a truly exceptional experience. Its aroma is to die for, instantly permeating a room with sour-sweet citrus tones. There’s no denying it: this strain is loud.

Mimosa Strain Effects

Mimosas are a great way to start a relaxing, lazy day, and this strain emulates that same effect. It’s a great daytime strain, since it imbues users with a rush of energy. It may even help provide focus for some people. However, this strain’s indica genetic influence tempers its euphoric burst, keeping it from becoming overwhelming. With its delicious flavor and its bubbly, effervescent high, you’ll be able to turn every morning into a delectable brunch experience.

Medical Patients and the Mimosa Strain

While “medical mimosas” may not be a phrase you thought you’d ever hear, the Mimosa strain offers benefit to medical cannabis patients. Notably, some patients have said that Mimosa can help alleviate headaches, including those from migraines. Its ability to help boost mood while easing feelings of stress are two key reasons that medical patients employ this strain.

Strain Specifics: How to Grow Mimosa

Growing cannabis can be a fun and rewarding experience. However, if you’re a new cultivator, Mimosa may be a bit of a challenge for you. As a sativa, growing Mimosa is much more difficult than the average indica-dominant strain. But if you’re already familiar with cannabis cultivation and you’re looking for a challenge, give Mimosa a try!

As a sativa-dominant strain, Mimosa has a few unique cultivation traits. For one, it takes much longer to mature than an indica strain would. It needs at least nine weeks of flowering before it’s fully developed indoors. For outdoor growers, harvest in late October, or before your first freeze.

Sativas also grow taller than indicas do. Even though Mimosa plants tend to be fairly short for sativas (about 3.5 feet), you’ll want to manage this strain’s height if you decide to try and grow it indoors. Using the Screen of Green (“ScrOG”) or low-stress training (LST) plant training methods will save you a lot of time and effort here.

If you’re an excellent indoor cultivator, you can expect fairly good yields from Mimosa: about 12 ounces per square meter. Outdoor yields are even higher, and max out at about 17 ounces per plant. Those are pretty huge yields for a sativa plant, and come to Mimosa by virtue of its indica genetics.
