What Is CBD Oil

Despite being some of the very first CBD products around, CBD oils are still one of the most common ways of enjoying all that CBD has to offer. People love CBD oils for their convenience, ease-of-use, accurate dosing, and impressive therapeutic effects.

But just what is CBD oil?

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil for easy consumption. You may also see it labeled as “CBD tincture.” The carrier oils that are most commonly mixed with CBD include MCT oil, olive oil, and hempseed oil.

CBD oils have withstood the test of time for a good reason. CBD in oil form is super convenient; it is easy to carry, easy to accurately dose, can be quickly applied sublingually, and is great for mixing with other foods and liquids.

What is CBD oil? Probably the best way to consume CBD!

Not All CBD Oils Are Equal: Full Spectrum vs Isolate

It’s important to note that not all CBD oils are the same. Different oils can be made with different kinds of extracts, which may potentially affect the oil’s therapeutic potential. Take a close look at the label of your CBD oil to see what kind of extract it contains.

For example, some CBD oils are made using CBD isolate. These oils contain no other cannabinoids, terpenes, or other cannabis plant compounds whatsoever, giving you nothing but pure CBD and carrier oil.

Other oils are made using full-spectrum and broad-spectrum extracts. Full-spectrum extracts, sometimes called whole-plant extracts, maintain the full profile of the plant from which they were extracted. That means that full-spectrum CBD extracts also contain traces of the many cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other plant compounds found in the cannabis plant from which the extract originated.

Broad-spectrum extracts are similar to full-spectrum but contain fewer natural compounds. While full-spectrum extracts contain the full spectrum of compounds naturally found in the plant, broad-spectrum extracts only contain some of them. Broad-spectrum extracts are effectively a half-way point between isolate and full-spectrum.

Many people feel that full-spectrum and broad-spectrum oils are superior to those that contain just isolate. It is thought that these oils may be able to take advantage of a phenomenon called the entourage effect to produce more potent therapeutic effects. Many others, however, swear by CBD isolate as their CBD of choice. Ultimately, it is up to you to find out what works best for your body and for your specific situation.

Is CBD Oil For You?

CBD oils are a great option for anyone seeking to take advantage of CBD’s therapeutic potential. But, while CBD oil has many advantages, other forms of CBD have their own unique benefits. In the end, it is up to you to experiment with different CBD products to find which product, or combination of products, works best for you.

For instance, eating a CBD edible may produce longer-lasting therapeutic effects than CBD oil, vaping CBD flower may produce effects much more quickly, and a CBD topical may provide more robust localized effects in trouble spots across the body.

Which form works best for you? There’s only one way to find out!
